CLARA F. FOSTER

Clara F. Foster, 86, of Grinnell died Thursday, Feb. 1, at the Mayflower Health Care Center.

Funeral services were conducted Sunday at Trinity Lutheran Church in rural Malcom, with the Rev. Herb Knudten officiating. Organist was Teresa Ziegenmeyer, and soloist was Bill Surbrug.

Pallbearers were Rick, Mike and Greg Foster; Jeff Barnes; Joel VanderLeest; and Allen Diehm. Honorary bearers were Jim Vanderveer and Dan and Joe Diehm.

Interment was at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, with the Smith Funeral Home of Grinnell in charge of arrangements.

The daughter of John Andrew and Clara Weber Diehm, she was born Nov. 18, 1914, in rural Poweshiek County. She was raised in the Malcom area and received her education in the Grinnell School District.

She was married to Lester Charles Foster Oct. 13, 1934, in Newton, They farmed for several years near Brooklyn, Guernsey and later, Deep River. In 1943, they moved to their present farm in Sheridan Township.

Mrs. Foster moved to Grinnell in 1994 and was a resident of the Mayflower at the time of her death. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.

Surviving are two daughters, Doris R. VanderLeest and Janet M. Barnes, both of Grinnell; one son, James of Grinnell; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; six brothers, Fred, Bert, Leonard, Art, Joe and Garland Diehm; and two sisters, Gussie Septer and Estella Vanderveer.

Memorial contributions may be directed to her church or to the Alzheimer's Research Foundation.
