BERTIE DIEHM RITES TODAY

Bertie Diehm, 75, of 1125 Summer St., Grinnell, died Monday evening at Grinnell General Hospital.

Funeral services were conducted at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Sam Reaves of the Grinnell Assembly of God Church and Dennis Smith, pastor of the Madison Church of Christ, officiating. Organist was Naomi Reaves and vocalist was Debbie Reaves.

Pallbearers were Marv Muskemo, Kenneth Mortenson, Joseph Diehm, Daniel Diehm, Duane O'Halloran and Rick Howard. Honorary bearers were Jeff Paschka, Daniel O'Halloran, Ronnie O'Halloran, Jim Vanderveer, Allen Diehm, Mike Clingas and Jacob Diehm. Burial was at Hazelwood Cemetery.

The son of John A. and Clara Weber Diehm, he was born Nov. 29, 1906, in Poweshiek County. He attended rural school.

On Dec. 17, 1938, he was married to Georgia F. Belcher, at Newton, They had made their home in Grinnell since their marriage. Mr. Diehm had been employed by the DeKalb Co., the Minneapolis and St. Louis Railroad, and on area farms.

Survivors include his wife, Georgia; 10 children, Betty J. O'Halloran of Malcom, Clara L. Hawkins of Newton, Linda L. Diehm of Grinnell, Carol A. Diehm of Springfield, Mo., Patricia J. Muskemo of Dodge Center, Minn., Joseph A. Diehm of Grinnell, Diane M. Mortenson of Montezuma, Jacob E. Diehm of Grinnell, Debra S. Howard of New Sharon and Daniel S. Diehm of Grinnell; 17 grandchildren; one great-grandson; two brothers, Fred P. Diehm of Newton and Arthur A. Diehm of Grinnell; and three sisters, Augusta M. Septer and Estella E. Vanderveer, both of Grinnell, and Clara F. Foster of Malcom.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Bertie A. Diehm; and three brothers, Leonard J. Diehm, Joseph G. Diehm and Garland F. Diehm.
