JOHN L. TEMPLE SERVICES FRIDAY

John L. "Roy" Temple, 52, of 508 Spring St., Grinnell, died Tuesday evening at Grinnell General Hospital.

The son of Orin and Ruth Rollings Temple, he was born on Feb. 21, 1918, at Sidney, Iowa, and received his education in the Kellogg schools. He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Army in the Asiatic Pacific theater in the Philippines.

On July 31, 1954, he married Elna Fleming at Brainard, Minn. Following their marriage, they lived in Grinnell, with the exception of a short time in Council Bluffs. He was employed for many years by Iowa Southern Utilities Co., and for the past three years was associated with the Newton Public School System. He was a member of the Methodist church and a past member of the American Legion.

He is survived by his wife Elna; four daughters, Mrs. Kendall (Barbara) Richardson of Hacienda Heights, Calif., Mrs. Glenn (Sandra) Tyson of Council Bluffs, Mrs. Dale (Dee) Saunders of Newton and Mrs. Robert (Julie) Brandon of Council Bluffs; 14 grandchildren; two brothers, Glenn of Searsboro and Warren of Pamona, N.Y.; and two sisters, Mrs. H.A. (Neva) Merriweather and Mrs. Glenn (Marie) Gullion, both of Knoxville. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, William and an infant brother.

Funeral services for Mr. Temple will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the James-Schalinske Funeral Home, with the Rev. J. Eugene Young officiating. Burial will be in Hazelwood Cemetery. Military graveside services will be conducted by members of the Focht-Tennant Post No. 53, American Legion. Organist will be Mrs. Kathleen Heffner, and pallbearers will include Gerald Sampson, Harry Martindale, Charles Saunders, Harold Schmidt, Jerry Carter and Kenneth Jones.

NOTE: Parents were Robert Orin Temple and Ruth Ann Rawlins.
