RITES MONDAY FOR MRS. SLOAN

Ruth Arnold McCandless Sloan, 75, of Des Moines died July 20 of a heart ailment in Mercy Hospital Medical Center.

The body was cremated and funeral services were held Monday at Grace United Methodist Church in Des Moines.

She was born in Grinnell, the daughter of David and Nellie Arnold. She was married in June, 1938, to George McCandless, who was killed October, 1938. She lived in Des Moines for 41 years and retired in 1971 as a teacher at Oak Park and Hubbell Schools. She later married Kenneth R. Sloan.

She is survived by her husband Kenneth; a sister Carolyn Arnold, Des Moines; two brothers Wiley E. of Atlanta, Ga., and Don W., DeKalb, Ill.; a stepson and a stepdaughter; six grandchildren and a great grandchild.
