CLOYD LYMAN DIED APRIL 6 AT GRINNELL
Cloyd Lyman lived exactly 71 years. He died Saturday, April 6, at Grinnell General hospital after an extended period of illness.
He was born on April 6, 1903 near Hartwick. At an early age he moved to a farm southwest of Carnforth. He attended Sunset #8 School. He farmed from 1916 to 1928. Then he moved to the town of Victor and worked at the creamery, Standard Oil, Cities Service, Victor Produce, Yeisley Elevator and Amana Refrigeration, Inc.
He was baptized into the Christian faith when he was in his early twenties. At the age of 25 he married Margaret Merck on June 19, 1928 in a home ceremony performed by Rev. William Bartz. This union was blessed with two children: a boy who died in infancy and a daughter, Glorine (Mrs. Robert) Berry of Iowa City. The next year, 1929, he joined St. James Lutheran church. He was a member of this church to his death.
He leaves to mourn his passing; his wife, Margaret, his daughter, Glorine Berry of Iowa City, two grandchildren: Kathy Warden of Ainsworth and Christy Bowman of Iowa City, one brother and six sisters: Cecil Lyman of Victor, Marie (Mrs. Joe) Hladky of Ft. Myers, Fla., Hazel Dolmage of Victor, Thelma (Mrs. Dale) Mohr of West Liberty, Dorothy ( Mrs. Wayne) Heishmann of Des Plaines, Ill. and Bernice (Mrs. Truman ) Reida of Lake View.
His funeral service was held on Tuesday, April 9, at St. James Lutheran church. The congregation joined in singing hymns "Heaven is My Home" and "Asleep in Jesus." They also joined in reading Psalm 84. The text which the congregation used to focus its meditation was selected by the deceased: John 14:1-3. Pastor Douglas Lenser officiated. Jane McHarg was the organist. Pall bearers were: Daave Dolmage, Dean Dolmage, Dennis Dolmage, Lawrence Merck, Roy Merck and Merlin Schmidt.
His body was laid to rest in the Victor cemetery. Following the graveside ceremony the Ladies Aid served a light lunch for the mourners at the church.
