--Samuel Norris was born in New York State Feb. 12, 1810. He died Jan. 30, 1899, thus lacking but a few days of being 89 years old. In his early life his parents moved to Pennsylvania and afterwards to Ohio. Here he was married to Miss Margaret Harris. In 1856, with his family, he came to Iowa, stopping at Brooklyn. He settled on a farm in Jefferson township and about 1866 he moved to Sheridan township. In 1880, his wife died and was buried at Brooklyn. Since that time his home has been with his son J.W., living in Grinnell since 1881. Mr. Norris was the father of eight children, five of whom are living. Four were able to be present at the funeral, J.W. and Mrs. Geo. Manatt of Grinnell, Mrs. Lavina Billick of Brooklyn and John of Montezuma. One son is in business at Kansas City. Mr. Norris was a extremely rugged old gentleman, well liked by all, industrious, careful and honorable. The funeral services were conducted at the house Monday afternoon by Rev. J.E. Corley of the M.E. church, of which church he was a member. The burial was at Brooklyn Wednesday by the side of his wife.
