RALPH RUTHERFORD
Ralph W. Rutherford, 82, of 215 Fourth Ave., Grinnell, died Tuesday, July 24, at Grinnell General Hospital.
He was the son of William H. and Anna Margaret Donnan Rutherford and was born Feb. 9, 1902, in Adair County near Casey. He moved to the Ewart area in 1908 and attended Pleasant School No. 4. On Dec. 9, 1924, he was married to Isabel Bowman at Newton. They farmed near Ewart until 1936 when the family moved to a farm near Malcom. In 1957 the Rutherfords retired from farming and moved to Grinnell. Mr. Rutherford was a member of the Elks Lodge and Masonic Lodge of Grinnell.
He is survived by is wife, Isabel, of Grinnell; children, Carolyn Stuart, Robert Rutherford and Judy Turner, all of Grinnell; nine grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren and a sister, Emily Taylor of Grinnell. He was preceded in death by his parents, three grandchildren and a sister, Rosa Schilder.
Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, July 27, at the Smith Fuenral Home with the Rev. Daniel I. Ogata, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church of Grinnell, officiating. Organist was Barbara Lien. Pallbearers were Leo Ahrens, Ross Lincoln, George Reavis, Max Smith, Gerald Wang and Fay Wasson. Fraternal rites were conducted by the Elks Lodge 1266. Burial was in Pleasant Township Cemetery near Ewart. Memorials may be made to Grinnell Elks Building Fund.
