Services Held For Mrs. Cox

Mrs. Alberta Cox, 95, of 1309 West Street, Grinnell, the widow of William M. Cox, died Wednesday evening, February 6, at St. Francis Manor. The daughter of LeRoy & Mary Ann Bowers Crawford, she was born in Wardensville, West Virginia on April 1, 1878. When she was 12, she and her family moved to Sheridan Township northeast of Grinnell; the family later moved to the Newburg area. On February 6, 1935, she was married to William M. Cox in Montezuma, and the couple made their home in Grinnell. Mr. Cox died in May of 1952, and Mrs. Cox continued to make her home here.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church and the Montezuma Vashti Rebekah Lodge.

Mrs. Cox is survived by 1 sister, Mrs. Clyde (Mary C.) Johnson of Newton, and a number of nieces & nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, William; her parents; 4 sisters, Rebecca, Amanda, & Fanny, all of whom died in infancy, and Mrs. Henrietta Richman; and 6 brothers, David, Branson, LeRoy, James, Daniel, & Luther Crawford.

Funeral services for Mrs. Cox were held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday (February 9th) at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Hugh Shiveley officiating. Organist was Mrs. Willard Heffner, and pallbearers were Walter A. Barnes, Douglas Crawford, Earl Mitchell, Floyd Richman, Darrell Stimson, & Clair Strand. Burial was in Hazelwood Cemetery. Should friends desire, memorials in Mrs. Cox's name may be made to St. Francis Manor.
