JOHN W. STROVERS, LONGTIME RESIDENT OF KELLOGG, DIES

A longtime resident of Kellogg, John W. Strovers, 76, died Jan. 29th at Newton where he had made his home since 1942.

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at Newton with the Rev. James E. Seibert, pastor of the Kellogg Methodist church, officiating. Burial was in Our Silent City cemetery at Kellogg.

The son of Garret and Lucretia Melyon Strovers, he was born near Kellogg on Apr. 27th, 1889, and received his education in the schools of that area. A farmer, he had resided on a farm southwest of Kellogg until retiring in 1942.

He was married to Iva Quinn at Newton on Dec. 22nd, 1915, and she preceded him in death in 1958. On Nov. 4th, 1959, he was married to Flora Talbot at Newton.

He was a member of the Pleasant View Methodist church.

Survivors include his wife, Flora; a stepson, Elvin R. Talbot of Great Bend, Kan.; a daughter, Mrs. Jack (Betty) Alfree of Hampton, Va.; a step daughter, Mrs. Lou (Bernita) Stockton of Riverside, Calif.; 12 grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Nellie Buttrey of Indianola; and four brothers, Harry Strovers of Indianola, Milton Strovers of Newton, Clarence Strovers of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Frank Strovers of Grinnell.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife, Iva.
