SAMUEL A. BENTON

Samuel A. Benton was born in Pennsylvania, Oct. 24, 1853 and died at his late home in Brooklyn, Iowa, April 3, 1909, aged 55 years, 5 months and 9 days. He came to Brooklyn in 1893 to make this his permanent home, but he had lived in Brooklyn prior to that time. He was married to Mollie Keysor Jan. 1, 1894.

The greatest even in his life occurred about twelve years ago when he obeyed the Gospel of our Savior. He was always true to his profession. During his days of strength as well as days of sickness he never tired of conversation on spiritual things and very often indeed has he spoken of the Blessed hope beyond through our Divine Master. He learned to subjugate himself to the Will of Christ. For several years past he had been a deacon in the Church of Christ and was present at our February monthly board meeting. He was always in attendance at the Preaching services and the Bible School and served as a deacon at the morning service until recently when his strength would not permit.

He was a man of but few words and made many friends. He was industrious and conscientious and respected by all who knew him.

He leaves to mourn his passing away, a sorrowing wife, two brothers Emory of Malcom, Iowa, and David of Chicago, a sister, Mrs. Jessie Evans of New Virginia, Iowa, Myrtle, a daughter by a former marriage, and a large circle of friends. He was a member of the Knights of Pythias and the Modern Woodmen of America.

He has gone, Yes we shall miss him and shall see him no more, but we hope to meet him yonder on that bright and happy shore.

Funeral services were held at the Church of Christ Monday afternoon, April 5, conducted by Elder S.J. Epler, after which the remains were laid to rest in the I.O.O.F. cemetery.
