LEO L. STRATTON
Funeral services were held Monday morning, Aug. 2, at Kloster Funeral Home in Marengo for Leo L. Stratton, 63, of Ladora, who died Thursday, July 29, 1999, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics following an extended illness. The Rev. Robert Barrick officated, and interment was in the Ladora Cemetery, rural Ladora.
Casket bearers were Carroll Ritchie, Bernie Gorsch, Max Leonard, Marvin Hilligas, Don Hilligas and Mark Hilligas.
Leo Leonard Stratton was born June 19, 1936, at Ladora, the son of Kenneth and Maxine Simpson Stratton. He received his education in the Iowa County schools and married Sandra Hilligas on Sept. 12, 1958, in Marengo.
The couple farmed in early years and for 43 years he worked at Amana Refrigeration as a welder, retiring in 1997.
He was a member of the Ladora United Methodist Church, and in earlier years, was involved in the Boy Scouts and the Civil Defense, and was a member of the I.O.O.F. He served as a board member on the Four County Head Start Program, served as the Ladora policeman, and was mayor of Ladora for several years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Elmer, in infancy, and a brother, Richard.
He is survived by his wife, Sandra; a son, David, and his wife, Lori, of Ladora; three daughters, Donetta Kriegel, and her husband, Jeff, of Hartwick, Annette Stratton of Ladora, and her finace, Robert Ehrenberger, and LaDawn Stratton of Ladora; and seven grandchildren.
A memorial fund has been established. Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo, was in charge of arrangements.
