HILLIGAS RITES ARE CONDUCTED TUESDAY
Funeral services for Charles Hilligas, 70, were held Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. at Bramer Funeral Home with the Rev. C.W. Woollard, pastor of Grace Methodist church, officiating. Mrs. Ed Bartachek was organist.
Burial was in Union cemetery at Newton where military rites were accorded by members of the Francis Gallagher post of the American Legion. Pallbearers were Ernest Andes, Mark Johnston, Evan Johnston, Roy Kriegel, William Benda and Randolph Roudabush. Flower attendants were Mr. and Mrs. Fred Waline and Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Provin.
Charles Cloyd Hilligas, son of Frank and Mary Force Hilligas, was born Oct. 19, 1894, at Hartwick and died July 17, 1965, at the Soldiers' Home in Marshalltown where he had been a patient since February. He had been in poor health for the past eight years.
He was married June 20, 1925, at Newton, to Helen Meyers of Knoxville. The couple lived at Newton for 17 yars before moving to a farm near Guernsey. In 1941 they moved to Brooklyn.
He was a World War I veteran and had been a member of the Francis Gallagher post of the American Legion for 46 years. He was a member of Grace Methodist church in Brooklyn. Mr. and Mrs. Hilligas observed their 40th wedding anniversary last month.
He is survived by his wife and four children: Charles J. Hilligas of Rock Island, Ill., Richard Hilligas of Brooklyn and Mrs. Leo (Sandra) Stratton and Donald Hilligas of Ladora. He also leaves eight grandchildren; four brothers, Thomas of Chelsea, Carl of Grinnell, William of Prairie City and Fred of Seal Beach, Calif.; and two sisters, Mrs. Vivian Myers of Newton and Mrs. Belle Kellerman of Westphalia, Kan.
He was preceded in death by two children, Gloria Faye and Louis Franklin; his parents; two brothers, John and Harry, and a sister Hazel.
