DELMAR L. FLEENER

Delmar L. Fleener, 86,of Hills and formerly of Iowa City died Thursday, Nov. 22, at the Atrium Village in Hills of pulmonary fibrosis.

A private family graveside memorial service will be held at a later date at the Newton Union Cemetery in Newton.

Born June 18, 1921, in Tappi, Minn., he was the son of Harry and Elsie Fleener. He moved to Newton after serving with the 8th Air Force in the European Theater during World War II.

He married Barbara J. Neal on May 15, 1954, in Des Moines. In 1986, he retired after 41 years of services as a superintendent of the sheet metal and plating department at Maytag.

He was a member of the Methodist church, the Elks Club, the American Legion and the Maytag Management Club.

He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Jan Caldwell of Iowa City; a grandson; a great-grandson; a brother, Bill Fleener of California; and a stepson, Robert Slatkoski. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Jon; four brothers; and a sister.
