RITES HELD FOR AUGUST HEINEN

Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon, June 15, at McAninch Chapel in Victor for August A. Heinen, longtime Guernsey and Brooklyn area resident, who died June 13 at Brookhaven Nursing Home.

Rev. Robert Bunnell, pastor of the Victor Baptist church officiated and music was provided by Mrs. Don Alba. Flowers were cared for by Mr. and Mrs. Carl Weiss and Mr. and Mrs. John DeCoster.

Burial was in the Guernsey cemetery with the followifng casket bearers: Alva Neitzel, George Norden, Lester Ranfeld, Orville Buxton, Cecil Schrader, and Elmer Norden.

AUGUST HEINEN

August A. Heinen, son of Johanas and Anna Ultzen Heinen was born March 23, 1884 near Morse Mill, Mo. He received his education there and after a short time of teaching in the rural schools he came to Iowa in the early 1900's.

On Nov. 25, 1908 he was united in marriage to Ida C. Schrader, of Guernsey. To this union two children were born. After their marriage they farmed in the Guernsey community until their retirement and moved to Brooklyn in 1945. He was a member of the Methodist church and attended as long as his health permitted. After the death of his wife, Aug. 8, 1963, he continued living in Brooklyn until the winter of 1968 at which time he made his home with his daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Shedenhelm.

He had been failing in health for the past few years. He entered the Grinnell General Hospital June 3, and was transferred to the Brookhaven Nursing Home June 8, where he died on June 13, at the age of 88 years, two months and 21 days.

Mr. Heinen is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Shedenhelm of Brooklyn; one son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Merril Heinen of Guernsey; four grandchildren, Howard, Harlan, Herbert and Harriet Heinen; four great grandchildren, Michael, Tammy, Steven, and Lisa; one sister, Mrs. Gertrude Norden of Mt. Clair, Calif.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, six brothers and four sisters.
