LOUISE CLIFTON

Louise H. Clifton, 94, of Grinnell died Tuesday, Oct. 23, at Friendship Manor.

A graveside memorial service was held Thursday at Chester Cemetery north of Grinnell, with the Rev. Ken Wallace of the Newburg-Chester Congregational Church officiating. Pallbearers were George and Chad Hafkey, Jim Huennekens and Terry Osland. The Smith Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

She was the daughter of Louis and Maude Pugh Hafkey and was born Oct. 4, 1907, on the family farm south of Grinnell. Her family later moved to Chester Township, and she attended Chester School. She was a 1925 graduate of Grinnell High School.

She was married to Arthur Raymond Clifton June 14, 1926, in Newton. They lived in Grinnell where she was employed by Iowa Telephone Co. and, later by Grinnell College. She also owned and operated Clifton's Park & Eat Cafe in Grinnell for several years. She was a member of the Grinnell First Baptist Church.

Surviving are her son, Raymond of Grinnell; one brother, Orville Hafkey of Grinnell; two grandchildren; and one step-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and one sister, Marjory Thompson.

Memorial contributions may be made to her church.
