LAST SERVICES ARE HELD FOR WM. E. SCHOOLEY

William Elwood Schooley, son of Margaret and Webster Schooley, was born at Lynnville, Iowa, June 22, 1882, and departed this life at 10:20 o'clock Monday evening, January 28, 1935, at his home, 503 Fourth avenue, Grinnell, at the age of 52 years, 7 months and 6 days.

He had been in poor health for several months, but was active until a short time before his death. Though he failed rapidly during the last three weeks, his going was unexpected. Monday morning upon entering his room he was taken with a stroke, which rendered him unconscious almost immediately, and that evening he passed peacefully out of this life.

In January, 1903, he was united in marriage to Miss Anna Elizabeth Gilbert of Grinnell. To this union three children were born, two sons, and a daughter.

Mr. and Mrs. Schooley have lived in Grinnell and vicinity all their lives. For 14 years, Mr. Schooley was employed by H.W. Spaulding and in later years worked as a clerk in several grocery stores. The last few years he has been employed in the Thompson Food Store and during this time has made many friends.

He was a member of the Northside Friends church and the last few weeks of his life his thoughts dwelt much on his homegoing and of his Heavenly Father. On the Saturday before his death, a heart to heart talk with his son, Donald, leaves the precious thought with those who were dear to his heart that his peace was made with God.

Besides a host of friends, he leaves to mourn his loss, his faithful wife, his children, Anna Mae and Donald, at home, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Schooley and grandson, Arthur William, of Grinnell, two sisters, Mrs. Harry White and Mrs. Will Philifer, both of Grinnell, and other close relatives.

His father, mother, two brothers and three sisters preceded him in death.

His many acquaintances will remember him as one who was kind to everyone and a friend to all.

Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at 2 p.m. from the Northside Friends church conducted by the Pastor, Rev. Chase R. McPherson, assisted by Rev. Carrie A. Butler. Appropriate music was furnished by the male quartet of the Friends church consisting of Paul and Glenn Huff, Joe Haupt and Bernard Bailey.

Acting pallbearers were William Pearce, Lawrence Ballard, Harry Lincoln, Guilford Moore, John Schmidt and Garland Carpenter. Interment was in Hazelwood cemetery.

Out of town people attending the funeral were his daughtaer, Anna Mae, who recently went to attend Bible school at Cincinnati, Ohio, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Gilbert, Mrs. A.F. Gilbert, and B.F. Sheline of University Park, Iowa.
