J.B. HEISEL DIED SUNDAY AFTERNOON; FUNERAL TUESDAY

J.B. Heisel, who has been engaged in the real estate and insurance business in Grinnell since 1919, following an active career as a farmer, passed away in a local hospital at 3 o'clock Sunday afternoon of a complication of diseases. He had suffered a slight stroke about a week before. He would have been 73 years old next November 17.

Funeral services in charge of Rev. C.O. Whitely of the First Friends church will be held at the Smith funeral home at 2:30 o'clock Tuesday afternoon with interment in Hazelwood cemetery.

Mr. Heisel was born near Glasgow, Iowa, Nov. 17, 1876, the son of Peter and Christine Heisel. He came to Poweshiek county in early manhood, farming first in the Blue Point neighborhood. Later he farmed a mile and a half west of Grinnell and in 1916 moved to a farm in Bear Creek township, where he lived until moving to Grinnell.

He is survived by his wife and son, Jay, of Benson, Calif. One daughter died in infancy. Jay is a flight engineer with the United Air Lines, with which he has been associated for 17 years. He is now flying between San Francisco and Chicago. His son, 1st Lieut. Jay Heisel, Jr., of the army air force, is now stationed just outside of Frankfurt, Germany, and has been engaged in the air lift.

Jay flew to Grinnell when he learned of his father's illness and will be here until after the funeral.
