Rachel Jane West was born at DeWitt, Iowa, May 6, 1845 and died at her home in Brooklyn, Iowa, July 2, 1914, aged 69 years.

She was married to L.R. McCulloch March 21, 1872. They lived at Davenport, Ia. seven years when they moved to Poweshiek county and lived on a farm north of town until fourteen years ago, when them came to Brooklyn to live. Five children were born in the family, two sons and three daughters, A.M. McCulloch of Presha, S.D., E.W. of Phoenix, Arizona, Mrs. J. Stephenson of Joliet, Mon., Mrs. B.W. Sloan and Miss Jessie McCulloch of Brooklyn, Ia. Mrs. McCulloch had three sisters and three brothers, only one of the family remaining, a brother at DeWitt. The husband, L.R. McCulloch and family and friends have the sympathy of the entire community.

She was an honored and respected member of the W.R.C. of Brooklyn, a good neighbor, a true wife and devoted mother.

Her memory will be cherished and her virtues praised by all who have known her.

Funeral services were held on Friday, conducted by Rev. S.E. Koons.

Interment was made in I.O.O.F. cemetery.
