C. ALVIE JOHNSON RITES HELD FRIDAY

Funeral services for Carlton Alvie Johnson were conducted by the Rev. James Ross Friday afternoon, September 24, at the Steffy Funeral Home. Music at the rites was provided by Mr. and Mrs. Lowell Black and the Rev. and Mrs. James Ross.

Casket bearers were Alfred Tish, Frank Strover, Warren Swangel, E.M. Guyer, Walter Meyer and Howard Hudson. Burial was at the West Liberty Cemetery.

Mr. Johnson, 72, died at his rural Montezuma home on Tuesday, September 21.

The son of Ulysses Grant Johnson and Mary Elizabeth Snider Johnson, he was born in Union Township on April 25, 1899. Except for a short period when he was ub tge Army in 1942, he farmed in this area all of his life. He had operated the farm, along with his brothers, until his recent retirement. He was a member of the West Liberty Church of Christ.

Survivors include a brother, John Allen Johnson of Montezuma; three sisters, Olive Johnson, Margaret Johnson, both of Montezuma, Mrs. Nina Schooley of Deep River; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Ethel Johnson of Montezuma; and 12 nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, J. Harlan Johnson; and a sister, Mrs. Viola Caldwell.
