DEATH ENDS MONTH-LONG STRUGGLE TO SAVE FIRE VICTIM

Death late Monday afternoon at University hospitals in Iowa City ended nearly a month of suffering for Mrs. Eldon Burns.

The end came just four weeks after Mrs. Burns was burned severely in an explosion and fire which destroyed the farm home of the young couple, married six months ago.

The young woman suffered severe burns on the entire lower half of her body, and shock and toxic poisoning from the large burned area hampered efforts of doctors to save her life.

Her husband, burned less severely, is convalescing in the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Burns.

Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, May 23, at St. Patrick church with the Rev. Joseph Fath, pastor of Browns Station Catholic church near Preston, reading the 9:30 requiem mass. The Rev. G.A. Lillis, pastor of St. Patrick church, delivered the sermon. Serving as acolytes were William Yost and Edward Eichhorn.

Interment was in Calvary cemetery with Keith Berckhan, James Plants, Robert Burns, jr., Lawrence Roth and Louis and Wayne Kriegel serving as pall-bearers.

The 21-year-old daughter of William F. and Beulah Brimmer Roth, Geraldine Fae was born March 8, 1935. She had always lived in Brooklyn, graduating in the class of 1953 from Brooklyn High School.

Immediately following graduation "Jerry" began working in the office of the Brooklyn Co-operative Creamery, a position she held for three years. She had been working on a part-time basis this spring.

She was married to Eldon Burns October 8, 1955, and in January the couple moved to the L.B. Wetzell farm, about ten miles north of Brooklyn.

Survivors include her husband; her parents and three sisters, Mrs. Stanley (Kathleen) Walford and Mrs. Raymond (Norma) DePauw, both of Brooklyn, and Marilyn, a student at Mt. St. Clare, Clinton. She also leaves her maternal grandmother, Mrs. Luett Brimmer.
