Thomas Benton was born March 12, 1851 in Armstrong Co., Pa., and died in Montezuma, Iowa, July 12th, 1904 in the 54th year of his life.

He was married Dec. 25th, 1882 to Almedia Keysor. Into this home ten children were born, of whom eight are still living.

The deceased was one of a family of nine brothers and sisters of whom three brothers and one sister still survive him. These together with eight living chidlren and the wife remain to mourn the loss of this one whom they had long known and loved. Mr. Benton had been in poor health for two years before death and not had strength for any kind of work for some five months.

One of the last conversations in which Mr. Benton engaged before the end came was an expression of his belief and comfort and hope from thinking of his Christ as his Savior, through whose help and promises he was willing and ready to die, expecting to meet God as his Savior and Friend.

The funeral took place in the house on Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Rev. Clarke speaking from the text: "It is vain for you to rise up early, to sit up late, to eat the bread of sorrow, for so he giveth his beloved sleep."
