Montezuma Republican, Feb. 2, 1900

Alanson E. Evans was born in Poweshiek county, Iowa, Aug. 30, 1861, and died Jan. 28, 1900, aged 38 years, 4 months and 28 days. He was united in marriage with Miss Elizabeth Ann Sackett Sept. 14, 1881, and by this union three children were born, two of whom, a son and a daughter, survive with the mother to mourn the loss of a kind and indulgent father and a loving and devoted husband. He also leaves an aged father, four brothers and two sisters to lament his loss. Mr. Evans lived a moral, upright, conscientious life, and was highly respected as a citizen, a neighbor and a friend. His years upon earth were filled with good deeds, which will be cherished by the dear ones from whom he was called away so suddenly. The funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon, at one o'clock at the M.E. church, conducted by Rev. W.J. Hannon, of south Brooklyn which were attended by a large concourse of friends, attesting the respect and esteem in which he was held by our citizens. At the conclusion of the services, the remains were conducted to the I.O.O.F. cemetery, and tenderly laid to rest to await the resurrection morn. The Knights of Pythias, of which deceased was an honored member, attended the funeral in a body, and at the grave held their beautiful and impressive ritualistic ceremony. To the bereaved widow and children and sorrowing relatives will be tendered the sincere sympathy of the community in their great sorrow.
