Brooklyn (IA) Chronicle; July 18, 1907

John N. Norris was born in Holmes Co. Ohio Mar. 24, 1837. Died in Brooklyn Ia. July 16, 1907. Age 70 yrs, 3 mo., 22 days. He with his parents came to Poweshiek Co. Ia, when but a boy. His life has been spent mainly in Brooklyn. As a pioneer, it's been his privilege to see the county grow up to its present beauty. In Sept. 1861 when it was necessary to defend our Country, he responded to the call and enlisted as a Pvt. in Co. E 4th Regiment Iowa Cav. and served until Aug. 1865. To him were born 14 children, 3 having preceded him to the other world. He leaves behind his present companion and 11 children to mourn his loss. By request of the friends and relatives his favorite hymn was sung, "Give Me The Bible." The funeral services were held in the Christian Church. S.B. Grisso, of the Brethren Church preached the service, assisted by Rev. Epler. Mr. Norris was a member of the Brethren Church.
