Services Thursday For Helen McHarg

Funeral services were held Thursday, Nov. 10, 1966 at 2 p.m. in the MeAninch Chapel for Helen M. McHarg. Rev. Robert Gamble of the Guernsey Methodist Church officiated. Arthur Lang sang “Beyond the Sunset” and “The Old Rugged Cross, accompanied at the organ by Mrs. Clayd Lyman.

The pallbearers were Dolar Cannon, John DeCoster, Harry Duffus, Howard Hicks, Myrle Mohr and Marlan Neitzel.

Helen Maria Griswold McHarg daughter of Edward D. and Elizabeth J. [(Cannon)] Griswold, was born Sept. 20, 1884 in Warren Township, Poweshiek County. Here she spent her entire life until fourteen months ago when she established residence at the St. Francis Rest Home, Grinnell.
She was a lifelong member of the Guernsey Methodist church.

On April 23, 1905, she was united in marriage with John Edward McHarg. After their marriage they farmed on the farm where she was born. To this union two sons were born.

She died Tuesday evening, Nov. 8 at St. Francis hospital, Grinnell. She was 82 years old.

She is survived by one grand-daughter, Jane McHarg and daughter - in - law, Margaret McHarg, both of Victor, several nieces and nephew, other relatives and many friends.

Preceding her In death were her parents; her husband, Ed who died April 25, 1962; one son George, who died Dec. 15, 1952 and one infant son who died in 1921. ~ Brooklyn (Ia.) Chronicle, November 17, 1966.
