The Montezuma Republican, February 22, 1940. Former Ewart Man Died in Grinnell. William John RUTHERFORD, who has lived in Grinnell for ten years, died at a hospital February 16, after a short illness with pneumonia. For the last two years he has not been able to get around much because of a broken hip. He was born in County Down, Ireland, April 5, 1854. When he was ten years old his parents emigrated to America and established a new home near Ewart, where William grew to manhood. In 1879 he was married to Margaret McKEAG. After fifty-seven years of wedded life this union was severed by her death July 13, 1936--Herald Register.
