ED BARTACHEK SERVICES HELD

Ed Bartachek, 78, of Brooklyn died Saturday, Aug 3, at Grinnell General Hospital.

Funeral services were conducted at 2 pm Tuesday at the Brooklyn Presbyterian church, with the Rev. Glenn Hulsebus officiating. Organist was Carol McClenathan. Pallbearers were John Bartachek, Roger Bartachek, Marvin Goodrich, Roger Hall, Dale Hawkins and Lonnie White, and honorary bearers were Amos Reida and Harold Schrader.

Burial was in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Brooklyn, with Nevenhoven Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

The son of Joseph and Gusta Martens Bartachek, he was born Sept 3, 1906, on a farm near Guernsey. He attended Bear Creek School No. 1 and Brooklyn High School, graduating in 1926. Mr. Bartachek farmed and was a projectionist at the Brooklyn Opera house. He worked as a tile drainage contractor for 22 years, then drove a school bus for four years. He also was a custodian at the post office and worked part-time at the Nevenhoven Funeral Home until his retirement.

He was married to Nina Manatt on May 24, 1929, in Des Moines. He was a lifelong resident of Poweshiek County.

Mr. Bartachek was a member of the Brooklyn Presbyterian Church, the Knights of Pythias, the Brooklyn Volunteer Fire Department and the Grinnell Stamp Club.

He is survived by his wife, Nina; one daughter, Sylvia Glass of Brooklyn, one sister, Florence Goodrich of Brooklyn, five granddaughters and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Fred, and one great-grandson.
