A SEVERE JANUARY
ICE STORM CAUSES
UNHAPPY WEDNESDAY

It is becoming an old proverb that "stars fell on Alabama" but it wasn't stars that fell on Grinnell last Wednesday.

Instead it was a driving rain that turned into ice as it fell, the whole furnishing a weather combination such as Grinnell hasn't seen in many years.

Cars limped around cautiously, the drivers uncertain at which minute they might start to skid off the face of the climate and many motorists had narrow escapes from serious damage as the ice formed on the windshields to interfere with visibility and cars on the road had greatest difficulty in seeing where they were heading.

Pedestrians slipped and sloshed around, frequently finding themselves sitting in puddles of water in various undignified positions.

Time and a modicum of sunshine have lessened the plague of ice, but drivers and walkers still have need to watch where they are going around Grinnell.
