RALPH SHERMAN RUNS
DOWN FLEEING JACK
RABBIT IN HIS AUTO

Ralph Sherman had a real wild west experience while driving to his home in Chester from Grinnell on Saturday evening, when he ran down a jack rabbit in his automobile after an exciting chase of half a mile. Mr. Sherman was running along easily with his thoughts on the football game of the afternoon, when suddenly Mr. Jack Rabbit shot across the road in the full glare of the lamps. Apparently he collided head on with the woven wire fence for suddenly he appeared again in the middle of the road. Mr. Sherman backed up a little, brought his lamps to bear and having decided what was ahead of him, put on full speed ahead and the jack rabbit bounded madly in front. The rabbit stuck to the middle of the road like any populist and after a chase of half a mile the automobile passed over him. Mr. Sherman had attained a speed of between 25 and 30 miles an hour in the chase.

Jack rabbits are scarce in this section and this is the first one Mr. Sherman had seen for years.
