J.B. GORSUCH'S
TEAM IS FRIGHTENED
BY AUTOS; RUNAWAY
------------------

Montezuma Republican: Monday morning J.B. Gorsuch in a farm wagon was driving a team east on Main street. When near the Byers corner, where he expected to turn south on the Barnes City road, several automobiles passed the team going east with the Tama Indians for Deep River.

The machines ran pretty close to the team and the horns of two were squawking. As a result the horses took fright and ran. Mr. Gorsuch and Foster Livingston, who was also in the wagon, were unable with their combined strength to check their speed. At the Byers corner the team tried to turn south and ran into a telephone pole. Gorsuch and Livingston were thrown out, and escaped with some bruises. The wagon was badly damaged. Two front wheels were rendered useless, tongue broken, and a lot of other damage done, beside tearing up harness. The horses, after being extricated from the debris, were found to have escaped with slight injuries. The wonder is that more serious injuries to occupants and team did not occur.
