EYE WITNESSES
OF NEAR TRAGEDY

A serious accident which occurred on the Lincoln Highway east of Marshalltown Wednesday evening was witnessed by Ray Clarke and his daughter, Miss Cornelia Clarke of Grinnell. One man, John L. Malm, of Marshalltown, was seriously injured and it was not sure whether he would live or not.

Two cars were speeding along the highway, only a short distance behind each other. One attempted to pass the other, and Malm's car, an Essex coach, turned over several times, glass flew, and Malm was pinned beneath the car. The other driver went on and is not known.

Mr. Malm was given first aid treatment and a doctor called who bandaged him as well as he could. An ambulance came from Marshalltown and took him to a Marshalltown hospital where he remained unconscious until two o'clock Thursday morning and then seemed to show some signs of improvement.
