Twenty-Fifth Wedding Anniversary of William & Elizabeth MURRISON

Source Newspaper Report, 1890 Brooklyn Library Scrapbook, sighted on our visit in May 1998

At the residence of the bride's father, Knowhead Farm, Scott County, Iowa, 8 Feb 1865, Mr. William Murrison and Miss Elizabeth Ballantyne. In the year 1867, this couple came to Poweshiek County, and located about two and a half miles north of Brooklyn, where they have made for themselves a comfortable home, and earned the esteem of a large circle of friends.

The twenty-fifth anniversary of their marriage was made a pleasant and memorable occasion by a party of neighbors and friends, who had invited themselves to spend the day with Mr. and Mrs. Murrison. Of course they were surprised and pleased as well, to see load after load of their friends arrive, and gave all a most cordial welcome. In a short time preparations for a feast were in progress and in due time a long table was literally loaded with large quantities of the luxuries of life, the most noticeable things being turkey, cake and honey and after the guests had been seated at the table and the Divine goodness and blessing had been appropriately and tenderly recognized, it is almost needless to say that some tall eating was done and that all fared sumptuously, enough was left to feed even more.

Mr. and Mrs. Murrison were made the recipients of a number of substantial and beautiful tokens of remembrances by friends present as well as by others in distant parts of the state and also in Illinois and Minnesota. After some hours spent as friendly chat the party separated all seeming well satisfied.
