REV. E.W. CROSS SLEEPS WELL
Grinnell Man Is Not Awakened by a Shell Explosion
(From Scarlet and Black)
Rev. E.W. Cross, pastor of the local Congregational church, slept soundly despite the explosion of a large shell at the mouth of his dugout, according to reports from the front sent to the Des Moines Capital. According to the report, Rev. Cross is now with the American army near Amiens, the town for which the Germans are struggling.
Dr. Murray Bartlett, founder of the University of the Philippines, and now a fellow "Y" secretary with Rev. Cross, had just left the dugout as the shell exploded, and was knocked down by the shock.
