HE STEPPED ON THE GAS.

Receives Wrenched Shoulder When Car Hits Telephone Pole.

E.P. Lewis, lino operator at the Herald office, has been taking a vacation from his duties. "Pat" recently purchased a bright red speed wagon from Dickerson and Cratty. The gas buggy is an assembled affair, made from tractor, Ford, Stutz and Grinnell Washing Machine parts. Lewis and Jimmie Ditzler were "trying 'er out" just off the pavement on West street Saturday afternoon when the front right tire came off. "Pat" pushed on the brake but his foot slipped off onto the accelerator and the last he remembers he tried to dodge a tree that was coming at him. He dodged the tree--clipped a telephone pole--and awoke underneath the machine which was still standing on all four wheels with a slight dent in the radiator. The telephone pole is a total loss.

"Pat" is back on the job today turning out lots of stuff.
