MISS BRAND WEDS
CHARLES PIERCE
SUNDAY AFTERNOON

Miss Dorothy Brand, daughter of Mrs. Florence Brand of Grinnell and Charles S. Pierce, son of Mrs. Ray Rivers of Grinnell and Marshall Pierce of Kellogg, were married Sunday, Sept. 28, at 2:30 p.m. in the First Baptist church in Grinnell, this being the first wedding ceremony to be held in the new church.

DOUBLE RING CEREMONY

The Rev. C.E. Kingsley performed the double ring ceremony before a cathedral altar flanked by baskets of gladioli and lighted candelabra. The couple knelt on a white kneeling bench.

Preceding the ceremony, Mrs. Bud Stevenson and Mrs. Richard Crawford, sisters of the groom, lighted the candles. Both wore formal length gowns, Mrs. Stevenson wearing yellow and Mrs. Crawford blue.

Edward Bohstedt played the nuptial music and accompanied Jake Brand and Carla Zylstra, both cousins of the bride, who sang "I Love You Truly," "Because" and "The Lord's Prayer."

LACE AND SATIN

Given in marriage by her brother, Edwin Brand, the bride wore a gown of chantilly lace and nylon net over satin, made with a yoke of illusion net and long sleeves ending in points over the wrists and fastened down the back with a row of tiny satin covered buttons. Her illusion net veil, trimmed with seed pearls, fell from a Juliet cap of matching lace. She carried a cascade bouquet of red delight roses garlanded with white velvet leaves. Her jewelry was a three-strand necklace of pearls with matching pearl earrings, which was a gift from the groom.

Maid of honor was Miss DeLores Johnson of Des Moines. She wore a gown of olive green lace over satin and wore a tiara of gold pompoms in her hair. She carried a cascade bouquet of gold pompoms on a lace fan.

BRIDESMAIDS

Bridesmaids were Miss Elaine Kahler of Des Moines and Miss Joan Wilkinson of Iowa City. Miss Kahler wore a gown of gold satin, with a tiara of bronze pompoms in her hair and carried a cascade bouquet of matching bronze pompoms on a lace fan. Miss Wilkinson's gown was of turquoise satin, her tiara was of gold pompoms and she carried gold pompoms on a lace fan.

Little Miss Jane Ann Parker was flower girl and she wore a floor length gown of white nylon net over pink satin with a tiara of matching pink satin ribbon in her hair. She carried a crocheted basket filled with rose petals.

Jay Stevenson of Kellogg, nephew of the groom, was ring bearer, carrying the rings on a white satin covered heart shaped pillow. He wore a white suit.

Attending the groom was his brother, Robert Pierce of Grinnell. Ushers were Dale Fleener of Newton and Joe Brown of Grinnell. All of the men in the wedding party wore white dinner jackets.

Mrs. Brand, mother of the bride wore a navy blue dress with matching accessories and the groom's mother wore a steel grey suit with black accessories. Both wore corsages of red roses.

RECEPTION

A reception for 150 guests was held in the fellowship hall of the church following the ceremony. Refreshments of wedding cake, ice cream, coffee and nuts were served from a table centered with the beautifully decorated four-tiered wedding cake, which was surrounded with a wreath of smilax.

Reception hostesses were Mrs. Joe Brown, sister of the groom, Mrs. Elvion Guyer, aunt of the groom and Mrs. Edwin Brand, sister-in-law of the bride. Mrs. Bruce Brush was in charge of the guest book and Mrs. Norman Ringgenberg and Mrs. Dale Fleener were in charge of the gift table.

TRIP TO OZARKS

For their wedding trip, Mr. and Mrs. Pierce left on a week's trip to the Missouri Ozarks, Mrs. Pierce wearing a grey suit with black accessories and a corsage of red roses. Upon their return they will be at home at 421 Park St.

The bride was graduated from Grinnell high school with the class of 1947 and from A.I.B. in Des Moines in 1949. She is employed in the main office at the Maytag Co. in Newton.

Mr. Pierce attended school in Cedar Falls and served in the navy for six years. He is employed at the Ford garage.

Out of town guests at the wedding came from Newton, Kellogg, Sully, Lynnville ,Killduff, Des Moines, Marengo, Iowa City, New Sharon, Davenport, and Omaha, Neb.
