LETTERS TO THE EDITOR

A MISTAKE SOMEWHERE

Editor Herald: The enclosed article I clipped from "The Oregonian" (Portland's morning newspaper) for June 13th. Thought perhaps you might reprint it, or a part of it, and help squelch a false rumor.--Mrs. W.C. Thompson, 6346 N. Montana, Portland, Oregon.

The Oregonian article says:

"A copy of the Hutchinson, Kan., News for June 5, mailed to Portland by a worried reader, quotes one Mrs. Joleen Owens of Oskaloosa, Iowa, as declaring that she "saw enemy planes drop objects on Portland, Ore., warehouses and set them afire, some time ago."

"In case this item should find its way back to Kansas, enemy planes have not been seen over Portland and no warehouses have been set on fire."
