Grinnell (IA) Herald; May 11, 1915

Joe McGinnis, who works for S. Copeland, near Jacob Switch, had both legs broken in a runaway accident a few days ago. McGinnis was driving a team hitched to a wagon. A board seat was placed across the wagon in the front end and on it a daughter of Copeland and an infant sister were riding. The horses became frightened and McGinnis could not protect himself without endangering the lives of the two with him. As a consequence McGinnis was thrown on the double-trees and the horses lunging seesawed them, breaking his legs below the knees. He is reported to be getting along nicely. The other occupants were unhurt.
