That helps to know a date. Here is what I find for you on various databases:
1910 Census, 1st Ward, Boone, Iowa, Boone County, page 75:
Witt, Mark, 53, widower, b. Germany, immigrated 1880, machinist on railroad
Witt, Albert, son, 20, b. IA, farm laborer
Witt, Minnie, daughter, 17, b. IA, housekeeper
Witt, John, son, 13, b. IALiving in Story County, town of Nevada, Nevada Township, is Edward, the other son:
1910 census, north Elm St., Nevada, IA:
Witt, Edward M., 22, married once, signal maintenance on railroad, parents b. Germany
Witt, Inger, wife, 23, parents b. NorwayThen I figured if Mark or Marx Witt came to America in 1880, he must have married here, so I checked my Iowa marriages CD for any, and found:
Marx Witt to Wilhelmina Jik, 23 July 1882, Boone County, Iowa. (This must be wife, Minnie.)
Marx Witt to Viola A. Good, 30 October 1895, Boone, Iowa. (Could this be wife #2 after Minnie died. Marx was a widower again by 1910 census.)
You may want to check the 1900 census soundex to see if Marx Witt and his wife were in Boone Co., Iowa, in that census.
Hope this helps you.
