Matilda Ada Matthews Barton
Matilda Ada Matthews Barton, daughter of Dempsey and Sarah Matthews, was born in Adams County, Nov 15, 1878, and passed away at her home in Villisca, Feb 4, 1959. She grew to womanhood around the Briscoe vicinity and was united in marriage on July 20, 1904 to Hugh Wheelock. To this union one daughter, Oral, was born. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Oral (Kreiger) on September 23, 1941 and by her husband Hugh Wheelock on June 23, 1949 and by a granddaughter, Ardola Eloise Yarrington on Jan 12, 1926 and twin sisters, Mrs. Lizzie Campbell on April 29, 1957 and Mrs. Mary Umphress on August 4, 1957.
On March 26, 1952 she was united in marriage to Ralph Barton of Villisca, Iowa. Mrs. Barton was baptized in the Advent Christian Church in 1935 and later became a member of the Free Methodist Church. She leaves to mourn her loss, her husband, Ralph Barton, a grandson, Elden Yarrington, and three great grandchildren, Tanya Kay, Trygve Ken, and Thomas Kevin of Kansas City, Mo.

Former Resident Passes Away
Word came to Griswold last week, telling of the death of Mrs. Matilda Barton of Villisca, who passed away February 4th. Mrs. Barton is a former Griswold lady, being the former Mrs. Hugh Wheelock and aged about 80 years. Mr. Wheelock passed away a number of years ago and his widow later was remarried to Mr. Barton. The parents of Mrs. Barton were the late Mr. and Mrs. D. C. Matthews of Griswold. Funeral services were held at Villisca last Friday and interment made in Griswold Cemetery.
