The funeral of the late Mrs. Carrie C. Elwell was held yesterday afternoon at the residence of Mrs. A. S. Grosvenor, on Washington Avenue, and was largely attended by sorrowing relatives and sympathizing friends. Rev. F. T. Webb, Rector of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, conducted the solemn exercises, which though brief, were deeply impressive and sadly touching. The tender chords of sympathy which unite all hearts in the hour of affliction, vibrated with subdued tenderness, and a solemn requiem wafted from a shoreless sea bowed the heads of all reverential devotion. It was a season of grief that was unutterable to the bereaved husband, relatives and near friends, who could only find relief in falling teardrops and broken sighs of anguish. It was the last scene in the parting of closely united lives, one of which who had gone forever, leaving behind only the cold, silent temple in which it had dwelt , with no expression, no power to return a look of recognition to the weeping eyes of those who survive.

After the services were concluded and the last farewell look taken, the remains were conveyed to Fairview Cemetery and there laid in the silence of the tomb to rest. The pallbearers were Messers. J. N. Casady, Finley Burke Jr., E. D. F. Fisher, M. F. Rohrer, P. De Vol, J. H. Wheeler, J. L. Stewart and R. E. Montgomery.
