Donald Dean Fichter, the son of Albert Jedidiah and Bonnie May (Hart) Fichter, was born December 15, 1926 in Wheeler Grove Township near Carson, IA and died June 18, 2015 at the Good Samaritan Society in Red Oak, IA at the age of 88 years, 6 months, and 3 days.
Donald was united in marriage to Joan Iris McConnel. The lived in Brooks, IA and Donald drove a cream route there. They moved to Griswold where Donald began working for Conklin Oil. Donald continued driving a tank wagon, and eventually drove for all the local oil stations at one time or another. He took a job with the Department of Transportation as a maintenance worker out of Griswold until switching to the D.O.T. paint crew in Corning, IA. Don retired after 29 years of service. He moved back to Griswold and shared his home with his son Dennis. Don enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and lit up when his great grandchildren would visit. Don was known as a humble man.
Don is preceded in death by his wife; his parents; and his sister Marjorie. He is survived by his sons: Ronald Fichter and wife Judy of Clarksville, TN, and Dennis Joe Fichter and Jon Claude Fichter, both of Griswold; his grandchildren: Lisa Froisland, Allison Shepker, Elizabeth Isacson and husband Brian, Travis Fichter, Jeff Fichter and wife Jeanette, Madison Fichter, and Nick Fichter; and many great grandchildren. Public viewing with the family present will take place on Saturday, June 20, 2015 from 2-4 PM at the Duhn Funeral Home in Griswold. A memorial visitation will take place on Monday, June 22, 2015 from 10:00 AM until 11:30 AM at the Duhn Funeral Home in Griswold. Procession to the Whipple Cemetery will leave from the funeral home at 11:40 AM. Interment will take place at Whipple Cemetery. Duhn Funeral Home in Griswold is in charge of arrangements.
