Obituary Notice
Ferdinand R. Walker was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, June 28, 1830; departed this life at his home in Oakland, Ia., July 12, 1904, aged 74 years, 14 days. At Warsaw Illinois, Oct 6, 1866, he was joined in marriage to Miss Cornelia A. Budle. To this union was born two children, daughter and son, Mrs. Sadie Jarrett, and Johnny Walker. Johnny died in childhood. Mr. Walker, in company with his family, came to Iowa in the spring of 1872, settling in the eastern part of the state, where they remained about one year. They moved to Western Iowa in 1873, settling on a farm in Pottawattamie County, about four miles east of Oakland. In 1881 they removed to a farm south of town residing here until 1890, when he removed to Oakland, making this his home until death. Brother Walker united with the M. E. church about the year 1876. During his residence in Oakland he attended quite regularly the different churches. He was a man of strong convictions, very decided in his opinions, taking an active interest in all questions pertaining to the welfare of his country. He was a man of sterling qualities of mind and heart, honorable in all his dealings, a good neighbor and a true friend. He leaves to mourn his decease, a daughter and grandson, Mrs. Sadie and Worth Jarrett, two sisters, several relatives and many friends. Funeral services were held at the Christian church Wednesday afternoon, July 13, 1904, conducted by P. H. Green.
