[published in the Oakland Acorn, Oakland, Iowa, Thurs., Jan 28, 1904, p.8, col.3]
Died – in Oakland, Friday, Dec 27, at 5 o’clock, George W. Cooper, after a short illness. His death, so sudden, came with a powerful shock to a community unused to laying in the tomb men in the prime of life. Up to the hour of his demise, but few anticipated it, outside of a small circle of friends who attended his bedside. The deceased was 38 years of age, unmarried, and a member of Ark Lodge of Freemasons, No. 335. He was a man with many friends and few enemies, a man of generous impulses and free, open handed liberality.
