Norman H. Pierson, age 79, of Neola, Iowa, passed away July 21, 2014, at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Norman was born April 29, 1935, in Shenandoah, Iowa, to the late Ludwig and Hattie Bell (Nicholas) Pierson. He graduated from Villisca, Iowa High School in 1953 and proudly served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps. during the Korean War. Norman married Vesta "Lucy" Gard in 1957. Norman was a member of the sign crew for the Pottawattamie County Roads Dept. for 19 years, retiring in 1997. He held memberships in the Neola Presbyterian Church, Church of Jesus Christ Latter-day Saints as well as the Neola American Legion Post #330. Norman was an accomplished organist.

In addition to his parents, Norman was preceded in death by his 1st wife, Lucy Pierson in 1985; son, Harold; 2 brothers; 1 sister and stepdaughter, Lynn Hanson.

Norman is survived by his wife of 24 years, Marva Pierson, of Neola; sons, Timothy W. (Marilyn) Pierson, of Bokoshe, Okla., Thomas D. Pierson, of Neola, Terry A. (Hope) Pierson, of Moscow, Kan.; 12 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren; stepdaughters, Lori (James) Hast, of Minden, Iowa, Christine Thailing, of Harlan, Iowa; stepson, David (Amy) Hanson, of Council Bluffs; nieces, nephews and many friends.

Visitation with the family, Thursday, 6 to 8 p.m., at Neola Presbyterian Church. Funeral service, Friday, 10:30 a.m., at the church with Reverend Dean Sparr, pastor, officiating.

Interment Neola Township Cemetery with military rites tendered by the Neola American Legion Post #330. A lunch will follow in St. Patrick's Church Parish Hall. The family will direct memorials.
