Alice L. Masker (1923-2013)

Alice L. Masker, 90, of Waverly, Iowa passed away on Friday, August 16, 2013 at the New Aldaya Lifescapes Facility in Cedar Falls, Iowa.

Alice Lucille Masker was born on January 6, 1923, the daughter of Jokum and Lena Christina (Nielsen) Jokumsen in Neola, Iowa on the family farm. She attended grade school at the Boomer Township country school and then BB Town Consolidated School in Logan, Iowa. She then attended college at Iowa Western Community College in Council Bluffs and then at College of St. Mary in Omaha, Nebraska, where she received her major in Elementary Education and minor in History. On March 3, 1943, she was united in marriage to Clement Masker at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Neola, Iowa. Alice was an Elementary teacher in Pottawattamie County from 1958 until 1972. She then went to work at Mercy Hospital in Council Bluffs as an EKG technician from July of 1972 until August of 1975. In February of 1976, she started to work for St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Neola as a secretary, receptionist and bookkeeper until February of 1977. On August of 1977, she was employed by Walter & Sciortino in Council Bluffs as a legal secretary until June of 1980, and then in October of 1980, she worked for Kraschel & Comes until November of 1981 also as a legal secretary until November of 1981. Alice was the assistant manager at Van-Nik's Family Restaurant in Denver, Iowa. She then went to work for Job Service of Iowa in the general office and later at the Human Services of Iowa both in Waverly until her retirement in 1998.

She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Waverly and various card clubs. Alice enjoyed reading playing bingo and card playing.

Survivors are her two sons, Tim (Della) Masker of Readlyn, Iowa and Tom Masker of Omaha, Nebraska; daughter, and Jane Weber of Fort Worth, Texas; 15 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren and 2 great great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Clement in 1972; son, Michael Masker; daughter, Patricia Koelling; and by two brothers, Soren and Julius "Jud" Jokumsen and sister, Elsie Peterson.

Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, August 22, 2012 at 10:30 am at St. Mary Catholic Church in Waverly.

As to Alice's request, her body has been cremated and there will be no public visitation. The family will greet family and friends an hour prior to the memorial service at the church on Thursday.
