A funeral Mass for Emil Pavich, a Council Bluffs City Councilman and longtime political leader, will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church with the Rev. Dan Kirby officiating.
A wake service will be held Monday at 6:30 p.m. at the church with visitation to follow until 8 p.m.
Pavich, 73, died May 6 at his home.
He was born in Council Bluffs on July 30, 1931, to Guy and Josephine (Pavelich) Pavich. He graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1949. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was later a machine operator for the Kellogg Cereal Co. in Omaha, retiring in 1991.
He served in the Iowa House of Representatives for 18 years and also served two terms on the Council Bluffs City Council. He was recently appointed to fill a vacant seat on the council.
He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, American Legion Post No. 2 and the Democratic Party.
Survivors include one sister, Mary Daneff and husband, Joseph Sr., of Omaha; brother-in-law, Carl Ulmer of Council Bluffs; many nieces and nephews.
Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery with military rites performed by the American Legion Post No. 2. A lunch will follow at the church.
Memorials may be offered to Holy Family Catholic Church or St. Albert Schools.
Cutler-O'Neill-Meyer-Woodring Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
