Arlon D. Whittington

Arlon D. Whittington, age 79, of McClelland, Iowa, passed away January 5, 2012, at Heritage Ridge Retirement Center in Bellevue, Neb.

Arlon was born November 18, 1932, in Underwood, Iowa, to the late Francis A. and Emma (Price) Whittington. He graduated from Underwood High School in 1950 and served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Arlon was a farmer for 30 years and retired from the Environmental Service Department at Creighton University after 11 years of service. He was a member of Mt. Hope United Methodist Church.

Arlon was preceded in death by his wife Barbara in 1999; and his sister, Lila Leaders.

He is survived by daughters, Kristi (Bill) Perrigo, of Underwood, Shelly Whittington, of Bassett, Neb.; sons, Curt (Sandy) Whittington, of Council Bluffs, Marty Whittington, of Underwood; step-daughter, Vicki (Larry) Boryca, of Missouri Valley, Iowa; step-son, Lawrence Thomlison, of Omaha; 17 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; brother, Darrell (Jeanne) Whittington, of Austin, Texas; and special friend, Eao Carson, of Scribner, Neb.

Visitation Monday, 6 to 8 p.m. Memorial Service Tuesday, 11 a.m., all at the Cutler-O'Neill-Meyer-Woodring Bayliss Park Chapel. Rev. Richard Russell will officiate.

Burial of Cremated Remains in Fisher Cemetery, Underwood, with military rites tendered by Neola, Iowa American Legion Post #330.

A lunch will follow at Mt. Hope Church. Memorials are suggested to Mt. Hope Church or Underwood, Iowa Veterans Memorial, P.O. Box 63, Underwood, Iowa 51576.
