Darlene Mary (Pedersen) Kay, age 89, passed away September 20, 2011, at Jennie Edmundson Hospital.

She was born December 23, 1921, to Lizzie and James Pedersen in Walnut, Iowa. She attended school in Walnut. She was married on April 3, 1940, to Roy Schade and to this union 3 daughters were born. They resided on a farm in rural Minden, Iowa. After Roy's death, Darlene moved to Shelby, Iowa. On August 17, 1960, Darlene was united in marriage to Roy Kay and they continued to live in Shelby until they moved to a house in Council Bluffs, and lived there until Roy passed away. Darlene moved to Harmony Court in the spring of 2000, and later to Primrose Assisted Living in 2009. She was very active at Harmony Court and Primrose playing cards, bingo and Bible study. Darlene is a member of United Church of Christ in Minden and also volunteered at Jennie Edmundson Hospital.

She is preceded in death by her loving husbands; parents; 3 sisters, Thelma Namanny, Irene Sievers and Beulah Kadel; brother, LeRoy Pedersen.

Darlene is survived by her three daughters, Marlene Campbell and husband, Robert, of rural Neola, Iowa, Sharon Price and husband, Richard, of rural Corning, Iowa, and LuAnn Leaders and husband, Douglas, of rural Hancock, Iowa. She leaves 8 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren; sister, Mable Schnitker and husband, Donald, of Council Bluffs; brother, Glen Pedersen and wife, Leona, of Storm Lake, Iowa; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation with the family Sunday, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., at Cutler-O'Neill-Meyer-Woodring Bayliss Park Chapel. Funeral services Monday, 10 a.m., United Church of Christ in Minden. Pastor Brian Wohlhuter, Officiant.

Interment Minden Cemetery with lunch and fellowship back at church. Family has suggested memorials to the church also.
