Ervin Edwin Eilts, age 89, passed away Saturday, May 7, 2011, at Amelia House, in Council Bluffs.

Ervin was born on February 16, 1922, in Wiota, Iowa, to Henry and Emilie Brauer Eilts and graduated from Cumberland Iowa High in 1939. He served his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII. Ervin was united in marriage to Mary Leonard on October 2, 1954, at St. Peters Church in Omaha, Neb. A member of Timothy Lutheran Church in Council Bluffs and longtime farmer.

Ervin was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Esther Gillam and Aletha Miller; brother, Albert Eilts.

Survivors include wife of almost 57 years, Mary, of Crescent, Iowa; daughters, Susanne Eilts, M.D., of Omaha, Jolene Edmonds and husband, Kevin, of Crescent, Iowa; granddaughter, Desiree Brown and husband, Shannon, and their children, Dillon and Amy Brown, all of Omaha; brothers, Arnold, of Fort Myers, Fla., and Lawrence and wife, Norma, of Cumberland, Iowa; nieces and nephews.

Visitation Monday, 6 to 8 p.m., at Timothy Lutheran Church. Funeral Tuesday, 11 a.m., also at church. Pastor Michael Petri, Officiant. Luncheon to follow immediately.

Interment Hazel Dell Cemetery, 1:30 p.m., with military rites by American Legion Post 2.

Memorials to Timothy Lutheran Church, Crescent Volunteer Fire Department or Underwood Volunteer Fire Department.
