George S. Vallinch, 80, of Council Bluffs died May 29 at Alegent Health Mercy Hospital of natural causes.
He was born April 13, 1924, in Council Bluffs to Frank and Anna (Stelovich) Vallinch. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and the Korean War. He was a clerk at Union Pacific Railroad for 40 years before his retirement in 1985.
He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church and the Union Pacific Clerks Union.
Mr. Vallinch and his wife, Genevieve, had been married since Nov. 30, 1956.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Mary Carrubba, Katherine Woods and Minnie Walker; and two brothers, Mike and Nick.
Survivors in addition to his wife include a stepdaughter, Anita Graybill and husband, Jack, of Council Bluffs; a stepson, Rodney Kruger and wife, Sherry, of Council Bluffs; two brothers, John and Steve and wife, Rita, all of Council Bluffs; many stepgrandchildren and great-grandchildren; nieces; and nephews.
A wake service will be held Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. at Cutler-O'Neill-Meyer-Woodring Funeral Home with visitation following.
The funeral Mass will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Holy Family Church with the Rev. Dan Kirby officiating.
Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery with military rites conducted by American Legion Post No. 2. A lunch will follow at the church.
Memorials may be offered to Holy Family Church.
