Joe was born January 29, 1906, at Red Oak, Iowa, to Joseph H. and Helen Papst.

He was a long-time resident of Neola, Iowa, and the local area. Joe retired from the Pottawattamie County Maintenance Department in 1973 after nineteen years of service.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 41 years, HyldaBell; infant daughter, Roselie; son, Dennis and wife, Carole; grandson, Dana Papst; great grandson, Josh Royer; sisters, Agnes Morris and Irene Reicks; brothers, Walt, Duane and Fred.

Survivors include son, Jerry (June) Papst, of Papillion, Neb., Lonnie, of Council Bluffs; daughters, JoAnn (Norman) Thordsen, of Lincoln, Calif., Judy (Don) Walker, of Fair Oaks, Calif., Jane (Bert) Royer, of Underwood, Iowa; 13 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; and 6 great-great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.

Family receiving friends, Friday, 1 until 2 p.m., at Cutler-O'Neill-Meyer-Woodring Bayliss Park Chapel. Funeral service, Friday, 2 p.m., at the mortuary.

Interment Neola Township Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Neola Fire and Rescue or Neola Presbyterian Church.
